How to make grandmother’s homemade cake

Soft and flavorful, this cake is perfect for breakfast or dessert, offering the cozy taste of homemade baking. You don’t need to go to a nearby restaurant or nearby food place. Here you find Pretty food, Meal prep and without having to buy online cooking classes.

Ingredients:

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour (about 6.3 oz / 180g)
  • ½ cup vegetable oil (4 fl oz / 120ml)
  • ½ cup of water (4 fl oz / 120ml)
  • 1 ½ cups sugar (10.5 oz / 300g)
  • 1 level tablespoon baking powder (about 0.4 oz / 12g)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt

Directions:

Initial Preparation:
First, preheat your oven to 356 °F (180 °C).

Then, grease and flour a glass baking dish approximately 9.5 inches (24 cm) in diameter. This helps prevent the cake from sticking during baking.

Mixing the Dry Ingredients:
Next, in a large bowl, add the flour, sugar, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.

After that, sift all the dry ingredients together. This step helps aerate the mixture and makes for a lighter, fluffier cake.

Mixing the Wet Ingredients:
Then, in a separate bowl, begin by beating the eggs until they are light and frothy — this is key to creating volume in the batter.

Lastly, add the oil, water, and vanilla extract, stirring well to fully combine the ingredients.

Combining Wet and Dry Mixtures:
After that, gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, gently folding with a spatula.

Be careful not to overmix — just stir until the batter is smooth to avoid activating the gluten in the flour, which can make the cake dense.

Baking:
Next, pour the batter into the prepared glass baking dish and smooth the top with a spatula.

Then, bake in the preheated oven for about 35 to 40 minutes. The cake is done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Lastly, remove the cake from the oven and let it rest in the dish for 10 minutes.

To finish, carefully remove the cake from the dish and let it cool completely on a wire rack.

Serving Tip:
To make the cake even more special, you can fill it with your favorite cream or simply dust it with powdered sugar.
