- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- 2 cups wheat flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup fresh cream
- 1 pinch of salt
- icing sugar for sprinkling (optional)
Directions
First, using a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, brown sugar and salt.
Next, incorporate the cubed cold butter into the flour mixture, using your hands, until you reach a grainy texture.
Then add the egg and vanilla essence to the dough, continuing to work until a uniform consistency is achieved. Now line a pie tin with the dough, pressing it firmly into the bottom and sides.
Now place the tin in the freezer for approximately 15 minutes while you preheat the oven to 356 °F or (180 °C).
After the cooling time, remove the tin from the freezer and pour the fresh cream over the pastry.
Finally, we will bake the pie in the preheated oven for approximately 30–35 minutes, or until the pastry is golden, and the filling is firm.
Finish by taking the pie out of the oven and letting it cool before unmolding and serving.
